Aadhaar Card Availability Biggest Challenge in Implementation of OSMS make Scholarship Schemes for Minorities Demand Driven State Specific Problems in Implementation of OSMS to be Considered – Sh. K Rahman Khan
The Ministry of Minority Affairs endeavours to make the Scholarship Schemes for Minorities a demand driven scheme. This was stated by the Minister for Minority Affairs Shri K Rahman Khan here today while addressing the meeting of delegates of States and Union Territories on progress of Online Scholarship Management System(OSMS).Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that the scheme has been by and large successful and Online Scholarship Management System (OSMS) for two scholarships namely Post-Matric Scheme and Merit cum-Means based Scholarship Scheme is already in operation for one year and two years respectively. This is the first year of implementation of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The important focus of DBT is the release of scholarship to the beneficiaries through Aadhar Bridge Payment System (ABPS) requiring Aadhaar number. The biggest challenge in implementation of OSMS is availability of Aadhaar number. At present only 19,000 of 45,000 post-matric beneficiaries have Aadhar cards. The Minister appealed to all those present to make DBT a success and to contribute to implement it in effective manner. Seeking suggestions from the participants to advance the time lines for timely distributions of the scholarships. The Minister sought cooperation of all nodal officers in protecting and developing the Wakf properties in their respective states.
Representatives from Planning Commission, nodal officers responsible for welfare of minorities from various States and Union Territories and senior officers of the Ministry of Minority Affairs were present in the meeting.
