The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has proposed to launch a National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) in 12th Five Year Plan, which will replace the existing Swarna Jayanti Shahari Rozgar Yojana (SJSRY). NULM would focus on the primary issues pertaining to urban poverty such as imparting skill training, enabling entrepreneurship develop, providing wage employment and self-employment opportunities to the urban poor. The proposal of NULM is at approval stage. This was stated by Dr. Girija Vyas, Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation in a written reply to a question the Lok Sabha today.
