Bar Council of India has strongly condemned the government’s stand on the Higher Education and Research Bill 2011 (HER Bill 2011) and has decided to oppose the same till the HRD Ministry does not exclude ‘the legal education’ and the ‘Advocates Act, 1961’ from the purview of all these anti people Bills.
In a joint meeting convened in Bar Council of India (BCI) headquarters today, , comprising members Chairman, Vice-Chairman and members of BCI and nominees from the various state Bar Councils, it was unanimously resolved that they will continue to oppose the HER Bill, 2011 as per their previous decision taken on January 23, 2012.
The council members also resolved to oppose other connected Bills namely The Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations) Bill, 2010, The National Accreditation Regulatory Authority for Higher Educational Institutions Act, 2010, The Prohibition of Unfair Practices in Higher Educational Institution Bill, 2010, The Educational Tribunals Bill, 2012; and The National Law Schools Bill, 2011.
