MCA- Conference on revised version of National Competition Policy begins

The Second round of consultations on the revised version of National Competition Policy will held tomorrow at FICCI, Federation House, Tansen Marg, New Delhi. The Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Dr. M.Veerappa Moily will chair the consultations.

The consultations are a sequel to the constitution of a Committee for framing the National Competition Policy and related matters (Committee), under the Chairmanship of Shri Dhanendra Kumar, Former Chairperson of Competition Commission of India. Other Members of the Committee included Shri Sudhir Mital, Additional Secretary, MCA, Shri Pradeep Mehta, Secretary General, CUTS, Smt. Pallavi Shroff, Advocate, Shri Anand S Pathak, P&A Law Offices, Shri Amitabh Kumar, J. Sagar Associates, Shri G.R. Bhatia, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Shri Manas Kumar Chaudhuri, Khaitan & Co and Dr. Navneet Sharma, CUTS Institute of Regulation and Competition.

The Committee prepared draft of the Competition Policy which was placed on the website of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs inviting comments of Industry, various Departments and Ministries of the Central Government and State Governments and other Stakeholders. The comments/suggestions received were duly considered and the draft Competition Policy modified.

Accordingly, meetings with economists and consumer associations as well as business and industry have been organised. Besides, a dozen experts are being approached to suggest sector-specific policy changes that are required to adopt principles of competition. Once in place, the policy will be a guide for various ministries and state governments to follow on competition.

The first round of consultations on the revised version of National Competition Policy were held at Indian Merchant Chambers, Mumbai on 12th of this month. The consultations were also chaired by Dr. Moily.
