CCH Competition Law Summit: Experts debate impact of new Competition policy on Indian businesses

Leading experts from the field of corporate law discussed and debated various issues related to impact of new competition policy on Indian business landscape, Competition Commission of India™s New M&A guidelines, Anti-competitive agreements, Cartel issues, Intellectual Property Rights under competition law and comparative study with US & EU regime at CCH Competition Law Summit held at Grand Hyatt Mumbai.

The recently concluded CCH Competition Law Summit in Mumbai received participation from more than 100 legal professionals across industries & law firms who used the platform to discuss strategies & best practices and share insights to assist businesses to cut uncertainties and to understand the rapid changes in the M&A deal rules and regulations. The speaker panel embodied renowned experts like Ms. Suzanne Rab, Partner- King & Spalding, Mr. Rajinder Sharma, Former General Counsel- JSW Group, B. Gopalakrisnan, President & Head (Law) – axis Bank, Debolina Partap, Associate Vice President & Legal Head- Wockhardt, Mr. Ashish Chandra, Assistant Vice President Legal- Star India, Anshuman Sharma, Country General Counsel- Novartis India, Mr. Deepak Acharya, General Counsel & Director Legal- Proctor & Gamble and many more.
The summit started with opening remarks and presentation from Mr. Vinod Dhall, Former Chairman, Competition Commission of India. This event addressed current issues like recent changes and amendments in competition act 2002 and comparative analysis of India, US and EU competition law framework. During the summit, said Suzanne Rab, partner, King & Spalding: “When any Indian company is planning to acquire a company in mature markets, they must not underestimate the power of complaint against them. Be it from target company’s suppliers, consumers or competitors. No matter how expert your team would be, local partner is very important in any jurisdiction for successful transaction.”
Case study by King & Spalding on practical competition issues based around a combination of agreements, dominance & mergers was very well received that covered abuse of dominance, factors for determining the dominant position and its abuse and recent developments.
